Colorectal Cancer risk is not defined by age alone
Colorectal cancer is often associated with older adults, but age alone does not tell the full story. Risk varies from person to person and is influenced by factors such as family history, lifestyle, and individual health patterns.
Recent local data highlight changing trends, with increasing diagnoses among younger adults. Furthermore, some people may feel well and have no noticeable symptoms, yet changes can still occur quietly over time. This reinforces the importance of looking beyond age alone when considering colorectal health.

Understanding your personal risk and knowing when to consider screening can help bring reassurance and clarity. Screening is not about assuming the worst. It is about staying informed and taking a proactive approach to colorectal health, at a pace that feels right for you.
Care starts with Awareness
Stool Occult Blood test at your GP
The first step starts with a simple stool-based screening test at the GP clinic. It offers a practical way to check for early signs and helps guide whether further assessment is needed. This option is suitable for those who feel well and want to begin with a straightforward, accessible screening step.

Clarity when you need it
Specialist Consultation
For those with concerns or a higher risk profile, guidance from specialist at Nobel Gastroenterology Centre or at TEN Surgery can help bring clarity and reassurance.
A specialist consultation allows findings to be reviewed in detail and helps determine whether further investigation or follow up is needed. This step supports informed decisions, guided by clinical expertise rather than uncertainty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who should go for health screening?
Health screenings are advised for adults of all ages as part of a proactive approach to long-term wellbeing. They are particularly important for individuals who have not had a recent check-up, are entering new life stages, or have risk factors such as a family history of chronic conditions.
How long does the screening take?
Most screenings are completed within 1.5 to 3 hours. The duration may vary depending on the day’s appointments, but our care team will guide you through each step to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.
This depends on your appointment time and the tests selected.
For morning appointments
Fasting is required. Please fast for at least 8 hours before your appointment. Only plain water is allowed.
For afternoon appointments
You may choose to attend your screening as fasting or non-fasting, depending on the tests included.
- If you choose fasting, please fast from 5.00 am onwards on the day of your appointment and drink only plain water.
- If you choose non-fasting, most blood tests can still be performed. Non-fasting results for key markers such as cholesterol and HbA1c remain reliable and accurate.
Fasting is still required for certain tests, regardless of appointment time, including:
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Treadmill stress test
- Urea breath test
Preparation depends on the tests included in your screening and your appointment time.
If fasting is required
- Fast for at least 8 hours before your appointment
- Only plain water is allowed during this period
- Avoid taking medications or supplements until all fasting tests are completed, unless advised otherwise by your doctor
If fasting is not required
You may ignore the fasting instructions above.
General preparation tips
- Avoid heavy or oily meals and alcohol before your appointment
- Drink plain water and stay hydrated
- Avoid coffee, tea, milk, soft drinks, and juices before your screening
- Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of your screening
Our team will advise you on the preparation steps when you book, or you may refer to our visitation guide for more information.
